Broken and Golden: Devised Performance for Extraordinary Bodies at Lighthouse Poole

As part of Extraordinary Bodies’ national Connecting Communities project, CoCreate Theatre group members collaborated with Extraordinary Bodies Young Artists to develop a new performance in response to the themes of Delicate, performed at Lighthouse Poole.

Over several months, participants explored music, dance, writing, circus and devised performance, drawing inspiration from the Japanese art of Kintsugi, which repairs breaks with gold lacquer. The resulting performance moved from Strong to Broken to Strong again, culminating in a finale song. The process developed creative skills, supported two emerging directors, and was facilitated by Gemma Alldred with musical direction from Harry Bassett, alongside essential support from access workers who helped everyone contribute their best work.
